Episode 194 – Nik Havert

 

My guest on this episode of The PVDcast could be called a Renaissance Man. Nik Havert is the man behind the imprint, Pickle Press. He has created a massive catalog of comics throughout the last twelve years. He is also well-known for his alter-ego, Victor Von Psychotron, a TV horror host. Nik also has written a book on the disaster movies of the 1970’s and is even a part-time DJ. Obviously, we chat about all of his projects and endeavors on this installment of The PVDcast!

On this episode of The PVDcast, I am joined by Tony Goins & Aaron Sinclair from the podcast, Distress Frequency. This podcast is quite unique, as it is presented in a radio drama format. Tony and Aaron explain the trials and tribulations of creating this type of podcast from writing episodes to casting actors/actresses to editing/producing each episode. Additionally, both Tony and Aaron share some insights on their other passions – comics and acting. Tony chats about his career creating independent comics; while Aaron talks about his acting career and the local movie making scene. It’s an episode that would make Orson Welles proud!

On this episode of The PVDcast, I am joined by illustrator and comic creator, Bruce Worden. He is the driving force behind Black Market Books. This imprint not only produces Bruce’s work, but helps other independent creators get their projects out to the public. Besides talking about Black Market Books, we also chat about Bruce great projects, such as One Drink, Woodstalk: 3 Days of Peace, Music & Zombies, Goodnight Keith Moon & A Vagina is Not/A Penis is Not. On this episode of The PVDcast, I reach back into the vault to present a new Podcast Pair-Up edition. In January, I was a guest on the 3 Geeks Podcast. We chatted about a bevy of topics, including Marvel’s Spider-Verse comics, Brazilian politics, Trump’s level of craziness, our top five movies of 2018 and even reminisced about Kevin Sorbo. There is an old saying that says “it ain’t bragging, if it’s true.” On this mini-episode of The PVDcast, I bask in some of the success The PVDcast has experienced, especially when talking about some of the wild places that are enjoying this podcast. I give a quick update on last episode’s guest Erwin J. Arroza and the status of the projects he is affiliated with – Grinidon and Inferno City Firehouse. I also discuss the technical problems that railroaded what would have been this episode. Lastly, I reveal more details on a new project, Behind the Puck, which will be special edition episodes linked to the Steph Greegor film, The Third Period.
